Product Basics

  • Our patent-pending technology uses built-in sensors to detect when food is present. A microcontroller controls the LEDs, activating playful lighting effects as kids eat. A touch sensor powers the plate on and off, and it automatically enters sleep mode to save battery life.

  • Yes. During meals, a sequential lighting effect turns on rim lights one by one to keep kids engaged. Individual rim lights illuminate every few minutes, and when all lights are on, the sequence resets. Once all food is gone, the plate celebrates with a fun light show, which stops when food is placed back on the plate.

  • The LEDs are soft and gentle, designed to delight rather than overstimulate. Brightness is not adjustable.

Safety and Materials

  • YumLit is designed to meet the highest child safety standards. Products are being tested for CPSIA, ASTM, FDA, and EN71 compliance to ensure they are lead-free, non-toxic, and food safe.

  • No. YumLit plates are not suitable for children with photosensitive epilepsy or light-triggered conditions.

  • The top of the plate is made from Tritan™, a durable, crystal-clear, BPA-, phthalate-, and estrogen-activity-free plastic also used in Nalgene bottles, baby bottles, and Vitamix containers. The base, cup, bowl, and utensils are made of food-grade polypropylene—also BPA- and phthalate-free. No dyes or pigments contact food.

  • Yes—all materials are certified food-safe and free from BPA, BPS, and phthalates.

  • Yes. We will offer a take-back and recycling program—send us your used products for recycling and receive a discount on your next purchase.

Care and Durability

  • Yes. The plate is waterproof to an IP67 rating—it can be submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

  • The plate is not dishwasher safe due to its electronics. Please hand wash only. The cup, bowl, and utensils are top-rack dishwasher safe.

  • The plate should not be placed in the microwave, oven, or freezer. Due to the built-in battery and electronics in the plate, there’s risk of fire and explosion if placed in the microwave.

    The bowl and cup are microwave-safe, but we don’t recommend microwaving any plastics that contact food.

  • Hand wash the plate with warm, soapy water. For other tableware pieces, the dishwasher is fine.

  • Yes. Tritan™ used for the plate, is one of the toughest, most scratch-resistant plastics available. Avoid cutting directly on the surface to reduce microplastics. YumLit will offer a replacement and a recycling program for worn plate tops.

Technical Details

  • Each plate has a built-in rechargeable lithium-polymer battery with a waterproof USB-C charge port. It runs for several hours per charge and automatically powers down after one hour. The battery lasts 300–500 charge cycles and is replaceable.

  • Use any standard USB-C cable to recharge.

  • The plate is 23 cm wide with a 15 cm eating surface and fits most high-chair trays. The bowl is 16.5 cm in diameter, and the cup is 8.5 cm tall and 6.25 cm wide.

Purchase, Warranty, and Returns

  • YumLit includes a one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Accidental damage or misuse is not covered.

  • Returns are accepted within 30 days if unused and undamaged. Return shipping is paid by the customer.

    We don’t offer direct exchanges. To swap an item, please return it for a refund and place a new order.

  • Yes, to most countries. Shipping costs and duties will be calculated after the Kickstarter campaign concludes.

  • Kickstarter backers will receive an estimated delivery timeline in their confirmation email. Our goal is to ship all rewards once manufacturing and quality testing are complete.

  • Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform where creators share their ideas and invite supporters to help bring them to life. By backing YumLit on Kickstarter, you’re pre-ordering the product before it goes into full production. If the campaign reaches its project funding goal, production begins, and backers receive their rewards once manufacturing and delivery are complete. If the funding goal isn’t met, no funds are collected. We’re deeply grateful to our backers for believing in our mission and helping bring this product and vision to life— your support makes YumLit possible.

  • VIP status gives you first access on Kickstarter launch day, plus our best pricing on limited early-bird offers.

    How do I become a VIP?

    Make a $1 reservation or join through select partner channels (e.g., referral or promotional lists). Both paths grant VIP status.

    What do VIPs get at launch?

    ·       Best pricing: VIPs receive 30% off MSRP (vs. the Kickstarter special at 20% off MSRP).

    Are the VIP discounts limited?

    Yes. Quantities at VIP pricing are limited and issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Can I get a refund of my $1 reservation?

    Yes—full refunds are available before or during the campaign. Email info@Yumlit.com with the subject line “Refund $1 Reservation.” To process the refund, you must have a PayPal account associated with the same email you used to sign up, and include that same email in your refund request.

  • The YumLit Affiliate Program rewards individuals and content creators who help spread the word about YumLit’s mission and products. Affiliates earn 10% commission on every verified sale made through their unique referral link.

  • The YumLit Community Luminary Program empowers individuals and nonprofits to raise funds for local food banks, soup kitchens, and hunger relief organizations.

    For every sale made through a Luminary’s referral link, YumLit directs 10% of the proceeds to their chosen U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
