Our Story
One evening, our 3 year old was overjoyed when he discovered the character at the bottom of his plate after finishing his meal (and we were equally delighted that he actually finished his meal). In that moment, a lightbulb went off:
What if the plate could “come to life” and literally light up, sparking that kind of joy and celebration every time?
That spark of an idea became YumLit.
At the time, our family was going through big transitions—job losses plus the uncertainty of a shifting world. As we navigate these changes in our lives and around the world, YumLit is a project that excites us—one that we believe will bring more joy and wholesomeness into the world.
Janet served as a U.S. diplomat specializing in international development and global food security, and Seth is an environmental engineer focused on climate solutions and sustainability. Our commitment to positive social change and environmental stewardship is shaped by our family’s values of kindness, connection, and a belief in the enduring need for “repairing the world.”
We created YumLit to bring smiles to kids, turn mealtime into something fun and imaginative, and give parents a new tool in their mealtime toolkit. We believe YumLit is more than a product—it’s also about creating joyful memories around the table, encouraging healthy habits at mealtime, and helping ensure kids at every table get the nutrition they need to thrive.
We’re committed to “feeding change” by ensuring that every sale of our products helps fight child hunger and supports families worldwide. Every child deserves a full plate. In a time with budget cuts to food assistance programs in the U.S. and abroad, that have left many families struggling, our mission to support child nutrition is more important than ever.
